The social bookmarking may be the most helpful thing yet. I have soooo many bookmarks and just stuff on my computer that I could put and organize online. I am still waiting for diigo(sp?) to approve my teacher account, but when it does, it will be a dream. This is seriously one of my goals, to have a website that is so neat and organized with all of my class info and assignments. Now I will cut myself a break since this is my first year teaching this course without a lot of guidance so it's pretty much just keeping my head above water, but I look forward to the summer when I have time to organize my class content.
The browser thing is pretty crazy. I used three different ones today to try to get something to work. Unfortunately it was the website, not the browser, but still, my students have confidence in me that I know what I'm doing and five an honest effort.
Here is a the link to my students youtube videos....it's a mix between silent movies and stop motion (Photo I & Photo II)
We did a ton of watching other videos and learning how to problem solve using youtube to watch videos on specific tech issues that arose. It's so powerful to teach kids how to find information and to teach themselves. I know it sounds like a contradiction bc that's my job, but to teach kids how to learn and how to problem solve is so powerful. I want my students to never stop learning, to always be innovative and tinkers. :)
Anne, I agree with you that I am waiting for my teacher diigo account to be approved. I signed up on Saturday and it said two days, so I am wondering when. On Friday at school my IE just stopped working! It turned out that the ActiveX was checked when nothing would work, and I just had to uncheck it. I didn't do anything to cause it, it just happened.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like you run a great class. Yes, it is our jobs to teach students how to problem solve.
I love your blog site.
I too am really loving the social bookmarking. What a wonderful way to stay organized between home and school. I thought I was so tech-savvy by using Google Docs and ditching my flashdrive. Now, no more emailing myself links back and forth! How do you plan on using Diigo in the classroom?
ReplyDeleteI love the energy you have for your students and their learning!! I also really like the idea of having all of my bookmarks and website organized. I would be curious to know which site you end of using and why.
ReplyDeleteHi Anne! How have things been since learning more about social bookmarking? Did your Diigo account get approved yet? If so, what do you think? I am worried about juggling too many new things now. I use Google Drive, Evernote, Dropbox, Facebook, now Diigo, and I am sure there is more that I just can't think of! How do we find the right balance? I appreciate your insight and thoughts on your blog!
