Today we set up blogs in PhotoII!! It was nice to have semester I under my belt to live and learn. I am not getting too much into the designing or adding of widgets. We will be using them as a digital portfolio to turn work in AND the unit we are in is video so we will be watching "Julie & Julia" when Julie is a blogger and Julia Child is a chef. My students will have to blog/reflect as Julia & Julie do with their own lives and my kids will have to do a "How to" video of their choice.
Next year, I think I will build blogs right away and start the year with video. The blogs are still the best way to turn things in. The blog has the time stamp so they either did or didn't and they are SOOOO efficient. And I get to give my two cents about professional vs. personal for email, social media, etc.
I also loe Google Drive and will be organizing all of the lessons/units on the Drive. The idea o opening a folder anywhere and having all of my items whereever I go is genius. :)
Wow! What a great idea to set up blogs in Photo. I think it will be a awesome learning device for the students to share what they are doing and learning in photo. Hopefully students can learn from other students about light, depth of field, colors, subjects, etc. I also have really liked working with Google+ but after our discussion and Carrie's love of Evernote, I am really going to give that a try. Great Blog!
ReplyDeleteI have never seen the movie Julia and Julia but it sounds like a great connection for the kids and I really like your idea of them creating their own how to videos. It reminds me of the presentations kids (and I when I was in high school) had to make in Speech class on some type of subject we were interested in and then we had to teach the class. Doing it by video is a interesting twist.
ReplyDeleteIt is thrilling to read about things working! To hear from fellow educators the advantages of technology, and again...there is joy there!! Maybe we can see some examples of those future blogs? Also, I will be curious to know about how your students are keeping up their blogs. I agree with you about the Google Drive, it is becoming so easy to use. If you are up to trying Evernote, let me know what you think! Thanks for your blog!!
ReplyDeleteIt's so neat that you are having your students do blogs! Our students are very knowledgeable about the internet, but they don't always know how to use it efficiently or "correctly." Once your students get to college, blogs will just be one more thing they are proficient in, something that they may not have otherwise ever done. Great job!
